Non tutti sanno che a solo 30' da Roma si trova un sito archeologico di incredibile fascino, vasto ed avvincente quanto la più ben nota Pompei. Alla foce del Tevere sono infatti visibili, grazie ad un'imponente campagna di scavi, i resti di Ostia Antica, la città-porto degli antichi romani rimasta sepolta dalle alluvioni e dall'oblio di 1500 anni. Essi sono così meglio conservati che Roma stessa ed offrono una testimonianza eccezionale dell'intera evoluzione della civiltà romana. Percorrendone le vie straordinariamente conservate ci si tufferà indietro nel tempo, immergendosi nella quotidianità di un'antica città raffinata e pulsante ove regnava il culto per le arti e le piacevolezze della vita. Vi si potranno ammirare le vestigia maestose di templi, teatri, fori o basiliche, ma anche quelle di edifici privati di ogni tipo e livello, quali abitazioni, botteghe, taverne, uffici e laboratori. In particolare splendidi i mosaici delle ben 12 terme o delle imprese portuali ( la piazza delle corporazioni). A maggior delizia del visitatore l'intera zona, grazie ai vincoli archeologici, constituisce un'incantevole oasi naturale mediterranea, costantemente rinfrescata da salutari brezze marine. Rientro agli alberghi o nelle immediate vicinanze.

Not everybody realizes that, at only 30' from the Capi-tal, an extraordinary archeological site, as important and exciting as Pompeii, awaits us: the impressive excava­tions of Ancient Ostia. This was the city- harbour found­ed by ancient Romans, at the mouth of the Tiber, and which later was hidden by floods and oblivion up to our days. Its remnants are thus better preserved than in Rome itself and offer us an extraordinary testimonial of roman civilisation along its whole evolution. By walking trough the ancient roads we will plunge straight into the past everyday's life of a refined and dynamic city where the cult for arts and pleasures was sovereign. You will admire in fact the ruins of majestic public buildings, like temples, theatres, fora or basilicas as well as of the private ones, like houses, shops, inns, workshops etc., ranging from the sumptuous to the humblest. Particularly attractive are the famous mosa ics of the 12 thermal baths and of the various harbour offices (Corporations Square). A further bonus: archeology spared the whole area from modern artefacts turning it into a delicious natural oasis, constan­tly cooled by healtly sea breezes.
